Social Media and Outreach: Share Resources, Highlight Services, and Build Support with John Amundsen.

Social media presents outreach librarians with a great opportunity to communicate value at a minimum of cost and time. This session will demonstrate how services like Facebook, Twitter, and Delicious can fit into an event’s communication strategy, using the 2012 National Bookmobile Day celebrations as an example. During this session, attendees will learn about choosing the right tools for the right message and how to strategically incorporate social media into their communications plan. Attendees are invited to share their own experiences in using social media to promote library services and events.

John Amundsen is a communications specialist with the American Library Association (ALA) Office for Literacy and Outreach Services. In this capacity, he administers OLOS communication efforts, develops resources including designing the suite of OLOS Outreach Toolkits, crafts promotional materials, and assists in planning of special events around ALA conferences. Prior to his work in OLOS, he served as an administrative assistant in the ALA Public Information Office and as an intern in the ALA Public Programs Office. He is a graduate of Northeastern Illinois University in Chicago.
